What is “The Word of God”?

images What is the Word of God? Let’s examine scripture.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son; who was born of a virgin, died on a cross, risen from the grave and caught up to sit at the right hand of our Father in heaven is The Word of God. All glory, honor and worship belong to Him and Him alone.

As we discuss this, keep this one partial verse in mind “and the Word was God.

Scripture was canonized mid 3rd century. I think I read that the Revelation of Jesus Christ was given to John about 90 AD? With this in mind the New Testament was not in existence until many years after the letters were penned. As we read scripture verses, please keep this in mind also.

I would ask one thing. That for every person that reads this teaching to ask the Holy Spirit to show you any error either in spirit or doctrine, and share it with me. I will not be offended in the slightest. I have one burning desire and that is to assist the Bride in preparing herself for her groom. Pleasing my Lord and being found faithful on that day.

I have taught that scripture is believed to be the Word of God. I do not hold to this credence. I will attempt to show as clearly as I can from scripture, why I feel this way and the danger I perceive from holding this belief.

I suppose this would be a good place to say what I do believe scripture is, how it is to be understood, its place in the Body of Christ and what its uses are.

First, I believe scripture to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. In its original penned form it is without error and perfect. This last statement I am sure will rile up some fleshly responses. Brethren regardless of the reason your flesh is active it is vile. Its only purpose is the die on the cross and carry you about in this world to share Christ. That being said I will provide a link showing just one error. One proves the presupposition perfectly well that, there is error present.

https://bible.org/article/mark-12-and-new-testament-textual-criticism

Now if there is error as we see there is. This is one known and easy to document. What about other purposefully performed by someone else a little more skillful? This on the surface seems to be problematic, but in fact it is not. We know two things:

1) The Spirit of God wrote the scriptures.

2) He is our teacher of the scriptures.

Problem solved. What does still remain as a problem is the carnal mind. No small problem I might add. This is no fault of the finished work of Christ our Lord either. His work was and is Perfect. Now on the other hand our cooperation and participation with this work is greatly flawed. Bear your cross, ensure you are born again. Rely of the Spirit to teach you and lean not on your own understanding. Did I mention to bear your cross? Put to death the works of the flesh. Obey the Spirit and that obedience is the death of self. Remember “Not my will, but thine be done.”

The perfection of scripture. This is a matter of awe and wonder. Have you ever dug deep into prophecy with the Holy Spirit? It is right here that the entire book becomes one. Cover to cover the perfection, the awe. I simply do not have words to explain this beauty. Our Lord is very, very smart. He hides the greatest truths under and in the simplest places. How He uses pictures for words and how the picture says volumes about the subject as well as hiding it those that are not His.

What is its place in the Body of Christ? Man is weak at best. Easy to lead astray and a sheep of sorts really. I know of no one that doesn’t fit this description. Our God is outside of time in eternity. In heaven. A whole different place. From there, and He being who He is can see the beginning and the end all at the same time. You all know this. From the first verses in Genesis to the last in the Revelation it is obvious. He knew we would need scripture to restore us as the Body. The restoration began with the mystics and an abiding relationship in Christ Jesus. Carried thru Luther and salvation by grace. Then things began moving faster. Revival of the Holy Spirit and gifts, spiritual warfare with Jessie Penn-Lewis and Evan Roberts, body life with Watchman Nee and the Little Flock. There is so much more restoration I need to make a list someday. I hope you can see the Lord’s hand throughout the ages and His desire for building up the Body of Christ.

It is my belief that our Lord is not a loser. That He is not going to return to His bride looking this way. We have a scripture that says the Bride will prepare herself for her Groom. I can see through the eye of the Spirit a glorious bride in waiting. What does this mean? You know the Lord as well as I do. He is and ever will be the same. At regeneration we receive new Life. This new life is beyond compare. We have to tell everyone and want them to share in Him with us. Then it fades. Why? Because it’s time to get busy working out our salvation. Loving the Lord, bearing a cross and maturing to the fulness and stature in Christ Jesus. Then, as we mature the joy returns and we possess Christ as a adult spiritual man. Not as a newborn babe. Jews have a way of interpreting scripture. Its called Midrash. For example, we can study baptism this was to know what the full meaning of baptism is. The flood saved Noah, The Red Sea save Israel, Christ after baptism was full time for His Father. Ours should be as our Lord’s. So what is baptism? Its a salvation from the destruction of the world and an entering into a new life completely devoted to the service of our Lord. A public confession of these facts. That being said, what would be a Midrach to an individual believers walk in relation to the Body of Christ? A mature body of Christ in close resemblance to the first century Church. Now I ask at this point to please “share with your teacher all good things.” Does your spirit give an amen to that or is it just me? Does He bear witness to the truth to you or am I off base a bit?

So if we are to prepare there is something needed. It is something the first century has that we do not. Let’s read scripture and see if we can find it.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God,

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly;

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

But the word of God grew and multiplied.

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by(through) the word of God.

What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

Can you see that the Word of God is something other than scripture. What this word does are things that are alive and so much more than ink and paper. Do you remember my request? The canon was not compiled for another 300 years or so.

We need Jesus Christ now as then. As the Word of God. His words spoken straight from His mouth to our ears. We are a nation of priests and prophets. It is His word that will bring life back into the Body of Christ. We need Christ as the central element of the Church; as the head, and we the members. If we turn our hearts from all other distractions, and place our eyes firmly on Jesus Christ, making Him alone the head of us individually and corporately we may stand a chance to be ready for His soon return.

We are told that “from our bellies will flow rivers of living waters.” This is a promise to each and every member in the Body of Christ. Do you experience this?

Our faith is comprised of two things. Spiritual knowledge and spiritual reality. When we are born again the reality is preceded by the knowledge. It really matters not in faith; which comes first, but usually everything requires faith and knowledge seems to block faith at times.

That being said, we need to begin with knowledge to find the river of Living water. At regeneration our dead spirit is reborn and made able to commune with the Godhead. The Holy Spirit takes up His abode in the regenerated spirit. For Him to flow through us the blockages need to be removed. What blocks the flow of the Life? Our carnal, fleshly nature. Sin, flesh and self. The fix? The cross. As our outer man is placed in death our inner man grows in grace. As we begin to have a life truly lived in fellowship and partake of the nature of God that life will begin to flow out and nourish others in the body and bring the lost to salvation. This is the life of every member in the Body of Christ. It’s our life here on earth.

That is one part. The second part that births of the first is to desire nothing other than the will of the Father. Seeking every moment to do His will and not our own. With a condition of the heart such as this He can use us for His work. If we jump out of our own the rivers stop flowing. Only as we remain immersed in the will of God can we be one in whom the water will flow through to others.

This is all new to me the last few weeks, so I hope it had been helpful. I would question you about one thing. Did it seem as if there was any water here?

Thank you for reading this and I love you all in our Father and Savior Christ the Lord,

K.D.

The Aim of Spiritual Work

JessomeStory-7Spiritual work aims to give life to man’s spirit or to build up the life in the spirit. Our labor will be nil in worth or effectiveness if it is not directed towards the spirit lying in the very depths of man. What a sinner needs is life, not some sublime thought. A believer needs whatever can nourish his spiritual life, not mere Bible knowledge. If all we communicate are excellent sermonic divisions, wonderful parables, transcendent abstractions, clever words, or logical arguments, we are but supplying additional thoughts to people’s minds, arousing their emotions once again, or activating their will to make one more decision. With a moribund spirit do they come and with just as moribund a spirit do they depart despite our heavy labors on their behalf. A sinner needs to have his spirit resurrected, not to be able to argue better, shed profuse tears, or make a firmer resolve. Likewise a believer does not require outward edification, since his real lack is inward life more abundant—how he can grow spiritually. Should we focus our attention on the outward man and neglect the inward man, our work will be utterly vain and superficial. Such work equals no work at all, and perhaps it is even worse than no work, for a lot of precious time is undeniably wasted!

Man can be moved to tears, can confess his sins, can consider redemption reasonable, can profess his interest in religion, can sign a decision card, can read the Bible and pray, can even testify with joy; but still his spirit has not received God’s life and therefore remains as dead as before. Why? Because man’s soul is capable of performing all these things. To be sure, we do not despise these motions; nevertheless we recognize that except the spirit is quickened these pious acts are but rootless blades which will be totally withered beneath the scorching sun. When a spirit is born anew it may display these same manifestations in the outward soul: in the depth of its being, however, it receives a new life which enables the person to know God and to know Jesus Christ Whom God has sent. No work possesses any spiritual effectiveness save that which quickens the spirit into an intuitive knowledge of God.

We ought to perceive that it is quite possible to exercise “false faith” and experience “false regeneration.” Many confuse understanding with believing. The former simply means the mind understands the reason of the truth and reckons it believable. The latter, according to the spiritual sense, involves being united; that is, by believing that the Lord Jesus died for us we unite ourselves with His death. People can understand doctrine without necessarily believing in the Lord Jesus. What we stress is that men are not saved by their good deed, rather do they obtain eternal life through believing the Son of God. Men must believe in God’s Son. Many believe the doctrine of atonement but fail to believe in the Savior Who atones. Their regeneration is false should they only fill the basin with the blood of the lamb without applying it on the doors of their heart. Countless are the professing Christians who lack the intuitive knowledge of God, although they live like true regenerated Christians—clean, pious, helpful, frequently praying and reading the Bible, even attending services. They can hear and converse about God, yet they do not know God, they have no personal knowledge of Him. “My own know me. . . and they will heed my voice” (John 10.14, 16). Those who neither know the Lord nor heed His voice are not His sheep.

Since man’s relationship with God begins at regeneration and is carried on completely in the spirit, it is evident that all our work must have its center here. To court apparent success by merely whipping up people’s enthusiasm results in a work without God. Once having learned the central place of the spirit, our efforts should undergo a drastic change. We do not labor without objective, simply following what we think is good; we have a distinctive aim, that of building up man’s inner depths. In the past we laid stress on the natural; now must we emphasize the spiritual. Spiritual service means nothing other than our working by our spirit for the quickening of the spirits of others. Nothing else can be so termed.

When in fact we recognize that nothing we have can impart life to man, then we shall discover how utterly useless we in ourselves are. When we cease depending upon ourselves and using what we have we will see indeed how very weak we are. Not until then will we learn how much power our inner man has. Since we usually rely so heavily on the soul by which to live, we naturally do not appreciate how weak our spirit actually is. Now that we trust solely in the spirit’s power we come to perceive the real dynamic of our spiritual life. If we are determined to give life to man’s spirit and not just assist the mind to understand, the emotion to be stirred, or the will to decide, we will realize instantly that unless the Holy Spirit verily uses us we are absolutely undone. “Who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1.13). How can we beget them if God does not beget them? We now know all works must be done by God; we are but empty vessels. Nothing in us is able to beget them: nothing in them is capable of self-begetting. It is God Who pours out His life through our spirit. Spiritual work is therefore God doing His work. Whatever is not done by Him is not accounted as such.
We should beseech God to reveal the nature and greatness of His work to us. If we understand how much His work requires His great power, we shall be ashamed of our ideas and abashed by our self-reliance. We shall see that all our efforts are but “dead works.” Though at times God in special mercy blesses our labors far beyond their due, we should nonetheless refrain from interpreting this as a green light to proceed on that course. Whatever is achieved by ourselves is worthless as well as dangerous. We ought to recognize that God’s work is accomplished neither by charged atmosphere, attractive environment, romantic thought, poetic imagination, idealistic view, rational suggestion, burning passion, nor excited will. These might well be suitable were spiritual work merely a dream and not a reality. But such an endeavor is to regenerate the spirit of man and to give resurrection life to him. It can accordingly be accomplished only by God Himself in that Power which raised the Lord Jesus from death.

Thus we see that unless we communicate God’s life to men our labor merits no praise in heaven. Whatever does not originate in the inward man where God’s Spirit dwells is powerless to impart life, no matter how compatible or how incompatible that work may be with reason and feeling. False spiritual enablement may produce results seemingly alike but it can never grant authentic life to man’s dead spirit. It may achieve anything and everything except the one real objective of spiritual work.

If we truly aim to bring life to others the power we use must obviously be God’s. But in case we employ soul power, failure is inevitable because the soul, though itself alive (Gen. 2.7 Darby), cannot quicken others; for “it is the spirit that gives life” (John 6.63). Note also that “the last Adam (the Lord Jesus) became a life-giving spirit” (1 Cor. 15.45). As the Lord Jesus “poured out his soul to death” (Is. 53.12), so everyone who would serve as a channel for His life must likewise deliver his natural life to death in order that he may work with spirit life for the regeneration of others. However attractive the soul life may be, it possesses no reproductive force. It is impossible to draw on natural power as the energizing force for performing spiritual labor. Old creation can never be the source for new creation, nor can the old serve as the helper to the new. If we labor by the revelation of the Holy Spirit and in His strength, our audience shall be convinced and have their spirits enlivened by God. Else what we give them simply becomes a masterful idea which may stimulate temporarily but leaves no lasting result. The same work may be employed in both cases, but what originates with spirit power becomes spiritual life while that which draws upon self-power turns into natural reasoning. Furthermore, whatever is done in the energy of our natural life will whet people’s appetite for more of such feeling and reasoning, automatically and unavoidably drawing them to the one who supplies such needs. The ignorant regard this as spiritual success since many are being gathered; but the discerning can perceive that no life exists in their spirit. The effect of such endeavor in the realm of religion is similar to that of opium or alcohol on the body. Man needs life, not ideas or excitement.

The responsibility of Christians is consequently just this: to present their spirits to God as vessels and to consign to death everything pertaining to themselves. Should they neither block their spirit nor attempt to give to others what they have in and of themselves, God can use His children greatly as channels of life for the salvation of sinners and the upbuilding of the saints. Without that, then whatever the listener receives is but the thought, reason and feeling of the worker; he never accepts the Lord as Savior nor is his dead spirit quickened. Realizing that our aim is to furnish life to man’s spirit, we ourselves obviously must be duly prepared. By genuinely relinquishing our soul life and relying entirely on the inner man, we shall see that the words the Lord speaks through our mouths continue to be “spirit and life” (John 6.63).

Misplaced Faith

imagesKnowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

The first truth the Holy Spirit restored to the Body of Christ during the Protestant reformation. Seems perfectly fitting for Him to do so right. What would be the first thing you would restore but the very means for the salvation of mankind. The beauty of those words are eternal. The moment we first met our Savior was because of the faith we had in Him, His work and His love for us. We turned our heart towards the Father and asked to be forgiven thanking Him for what His Son had done for us. Faith in Jesus Christ is our entry into the Kingdom of God. There is no other way to the Father, but through the Son.

The early Church was built on something. Any guess what that may have been? The Torah, maybe? Nope. It was built on the same thing that brought us our salvation. Faith in Jesus Christ. Let’s read some scripture. I have a thing I like to do and that is putting up a lot of scripture. Good in building up our faith in Christ.

But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.”

And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost,”

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.”

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.”

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.”

The Church was built on Faith in Jesus Christ. They “preacheth the faith”, healed “ through faith in his name”, some were “ full of faith”, some became “ obedient to the faith”, “and exhorting them to continue in the faith”, “ the churches were established in the faith”, What is this faith?

And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.”

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,”

For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.”

Our life in Christ begins with faith in Him and his sacrifice on the cross and continues in Him until time ends and eternity begins. Then however long forever is; it will continue on.

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.”

Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,”

Our faith at regeneration is a small faith most of the time. Even if it is a bit larger; it still has the capacity to grow. I am not sure there is an end to how large our faith can become. The absolute beauty of those that have an active faith in the Lord is staggering. It is heart enlarging to see believers trust in Jesus Christ. Give Him everything, bear a cross for Him and love Him even without ever seeing Him. I could burst with joy seeing these things.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness”

Our faith in Jesus Christ is counted for righteousness. Just to believe we have boldness in Christ, our sins forgiven, our conscience washed in His blood and made to sit at the right hand of the Father in Christ. Faith in Jesus is a mighty powerful thing.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Where does faith come from? It comes by hearing God speak to us. When I was converted I had a conviction of sin and knew that I needed Jesus Christ. I believed what He had done for me and sought forgiveness. How did that faith come? It came by a Christian telling me about Jesus Christ and God bearing witness through the words of that man. God spoke to me through a man. I heard the Word. Are we not a nation of priests and prophets after all? A priest enters into the presence of the Lord for the brethren, and a prophet speaks God’s Word to others.

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Don’t base your faith on men and their wisdom, but base it off of Him and Him alone.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

How are we to live the Christian life? We bear our cross and die to self. Having faith in the resurrection life in Christ. Paul had done this so well that his self life was gone. He lived by the life of Christ. Don’t assume this is you. There is much death and obedience to the Spirit to become this quality of believer; much hardship and pains, humiliations and heartache to be able to say what he said here.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”

What is misplaced faith? Its faith in anything else other than Jesus Christ.

25 years ago I had a crisis in faith. Well, it was much worse than that actually. I was 17 years young in the Lord and attended every Church service available. Soaked up all the teaching I could, read avidly and fiercely loved the Lord. The thing about knowing the Lord and desiring to be taught by the Spirit is He leads you out of deceptions. You just can’t walk in the light and not see things out of the corner of your eye. When you believe something so strongly it is really hard to see what is happening around you. I loved the Lord and I loved His Church. ALOT. But something was wrong.

I began seeing things, but choose to ignore them. For example the lack of devotion to Jesus Christ. The position money played. The lives of believers outside the gathering. The worship team taking jobs playing rock music at parties. The list goes on and on. The last one was the crisis for me. I realized the Church didn’t love the Lord. Keep in mind this was 25 years ago. It was not near as bad as it is now.

Needless to say I lost my faith. It was too big of a blow for it to survive. In time the Lord in the tender way He does; called me back. My faith was restored and stronger than ever. Placed upon the Rock instead of the sand. I began attending Church as a spectator. I just had to be near the brethren, even if they didn’t have much faith. The weekend worship was fruitful. I was able to worship My Lord in an assembly of professing believers.

Cognitive Dissonance

“Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very

strong. When they are presented with evidence that

works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be

accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely

uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance.

And because it is so important to protect the core

belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny

anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief.”

We as Christians are very apt to this very thing. We have faith that is fleshly. It’s a belief that is arrived at from our own understanding. Carnal faith.

For example:

As married man for some odd reason I had the oddest feeling that something is wrong. My wife’s timing home from work was off. Odd excuses for seemingly normal situations. After a few months you kind of wake up and start to put it all together, but even then you just simply don’t believe what you know in your heart.

It is impossibly hard to believe what you know to be true regardless of the preponderance of evidence presented. Why? Because we have placed faith in a something that is susceptible to faithlessness. There is a possibility that given a certain set of circumstances the object of your faith could fail. When it happens there is a period of time that your mind just cannot believe what is transpiring.

As a Christian we so desire to have faith. The Lord has redeemed us and given us new life. We know beyond any doubt He is real and so by inference everything to do with Him is a well. Our faith is brand new and fragile.

What happens to new believers in Christ. The Church begins to show us how to be a Christian. What is usually the outcome of that? We are taught that we must attend all the services, the pastor is the teacher of scripture, and the scripture needs to be studied every day. As a new believer all these are very, very good. We are in the Body of Christ, learning from someone that has a better understanding of scripture and Life in Christ than we do, and we are reading the scripture often. Hopefully everyday.

Slowly our new Life begins to be dampened by the lack of believers walking with Christ. Our faith spreads out from Jesus alone and attaches to the pastor, Church and scriptures. Then after 10 or 15 years of this we either fall away or renounce our faith entirely. Some with fleshly devotion join bible college and become pastors etc. You all know exactly what I am saying. Most everyone has been, or is currently involved with those professing Christ, but look nothing like Him.

This is so gloomy I can’t even stand writing it. I have seen it so many times. A freshly newborn babe in Christ. On Fire for Jesus Christ. Denying self without reserve. Walking in holiness. Taught by the Spirit and completely in Love with Jesus Christ.

Get sucked up into placing their faith in something other than Jesus Christ.

And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Keep your faith in Christ alone. The Church will let you down. The pastor will let you down. Your understanding of scripture will let you down. Keep your faith solidly rooted in Christ Jesus our Lord. Love the brethren. Pray for those in a position over you and always seek the Spirit’s teaching of scripture.

Much love in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

K.D.

The Word of God

6239_1280x800

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Brethren, I want to ask you a question. Has the Lord ever spoken to you? When He called you to salvation maybe? Have you read scripture and the words on the page were alive and vibrant. They went into your heart and were Life to you? That those verses gave you the strength to overcome whatever was needed at the time or maybe you knew then what is was the Lord desired from you.

Then how about the times you read scripture and it seems lifeless. No guidance; no life. You search and search and it is just not there.

What is the difference between these two times of scripture reading? Do you know? The first is when the Lord is speaking to you and the second is when He is not. The first is Life and we should always have our heart in a position of dependence upon the Lord to teach us scripture. Each and every time we open up the bible we need to take our hearts and place them at the feet of the Lord in humble dependence upon His Spirit to open up the scripture to us. Every time.

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”

Scripture is perfect. We are not. When taught scripture by its author we can know it perfectly, but when we lean on our own understanding to know scripture it is much less than perfect. Reading spiritual with carnal brings death to our spiritual life.

for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”

There are those who seek power from knowledge of scripture. They have their reward. Seek to know your Lord and be taught by His Spirit. Shun carnal knowledge. Knowledge will make you proud. Spirit taught scripture will make you live a life worthy of salvation.

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth”

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”

The Holy Spirit is also known as the Spirit of Truth. Lean on Him to understand what is true and false. He is trustworthy.

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

Don’t be deceived by those that seek power and prestige from their knowledge of the bible. I love where Luke in the book of Acts says:

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”

Who was marveling?

And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.”

The scripture scholars of the day missed Christ. Even worse yet; they killed their Redeemer. Why? Because they had carnal knowledge of the scripture. Because they used this knowledge for power and authority. They are perfect examples for us in the negative. Who not to emulate. What not to do.

“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven”

We live by the words the Lord speaks to us today. Fresh manna every morning. By every word that proceeds from the mouth of our Lord and our God. Be that scripture reading, teaching from the brethren or reading books. Where the Spirit teaches from is where we feed on the Word of God. Jesus Christ our Lord.

Much love in Jesus Christ our Lord and our God,

K.D.

The Bible is not the “Word of God”

king-james-bible-615

During the dark ages the scriptures were kept from the brethren. The Roman Church allowed them in Latin; a language the common uneducated person was unable to read. The Lord raised up a man that gave his life to translate the scriptures; that being William Tyndale. He was strangled and burnt at the stake for his efforts.

Martin Luther and John Calvin headed up the reformation of Catholicism to Protestantism. During these times the scripture was used as the primary tool to battle the Roman Catholic Church. Many beautiful truths were regained throughout all this, and the scripture was in turn revered. Rightly so I may add.

“If a little bit is good, more is better.” We all think this way. What the translation of the scripture into English accomplished was good, very good. But things got out of a proper balance. Scripture was placed as the final word on all things in the Christian faith. A man may have the new birth, but it takes a few years to put to death the works of the flesh and have a mind renewed into the Mind of Christ. Even though Luther restored the doctrine of salvation by faith, and union with Christ, he was a fleshly man. As a consequence of these days we still suffer from the carnal mentality that scriptural knowledge is equal to spiritual age in Christ. Then to compound the problem Paul was a scholar and able to explain spiritual life in a scholarly fashion.

I challenge you to read everything Paul ever penned trying see the man behind the teachings. He was deeply in love with Jesus Christ and he gave and poured out his life for the Body of Christ. The believers of that day would do anything for him. They shed many tears for their Apostle.

The inordinate position of scripture in the Body of Christ has created separation upon separation though out the centuries. The book that teaches we are to be one; has been the same book that’s divided the Body of Christ times without end. Why? Because it has been given too much predominance in the Ekklesia.

As you read this dissertation, try and very simply believe what scripture says, and the heart of what it is teaching. Keep your spirit keen to hear and know the Spirit of Truth. It is he who wrote the scripture and it must needs be Him to teach them as well. If this should be the case they will never again create a separation between believers in Christ our Lord again.

We are going to review what scripture says about The Word of the Lord, Scripture and Scriptures and The Word of God. For the latter two we will review each time they appear in the scriptures.

If we believe a lie; even just one; it can and will direct us on an improper course. For example, consider the lie Eve believed and acted upon. Just one lie believed has caused more sin and misery than any other single act in the history of mankind. The scriptures are incomparable in their scope, truth and beauty, but if used outside of their designed purpose bring nothing but death and destruction to the believer in Christ.

Scripture and Scriptures

Usage: Scripture and Scripturesoccurs 52 times (Once in the OT and remainder in the NT)

Gesenius’ Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon – Something written, a writing, a book. (Strong’s H3791)

Thayer’s Greek Lexicon – A writing, thing written. (Strong’s G1124)

But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth:” Dan 10:21

It appears the “Scripture of Truth” the Angel is teaching Daniel from is a book in Heaven, and unrelated to our scriptures. We can see by what the angel’s content shown to Daniel. It was something completely new to scripture. Namely the course of history from Daniel’s day to the return of our King. This leaves the word “scripture” exclusively used in the New Testament.

I think it prudent to list each and every instance where scripture talks about scripture. There are 51 more instances. If you were to look up Strong’s G1124 on Blue Letter Bible you can view chapter, verse and Thayer’s definition.  http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G1124&t=KJV

Here are the 51 instances, try and see how the Lord viewed them as well as others who we love and respect.

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

(Notice how the Lord calls the writing of the prophets scripture)

And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

(These two verses show scripture in its proper usage.)

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

(If you truly want to be a witness for the Lord and build up the Body of Christ ask the Lord to make you one of these believers. One who rivers of living water flow from.)

Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

(The Lord seperates the Word of God and scripture here. He was quoting Psalms 82:6 “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.”)

I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots.

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

(When David spoke by the Holy Ghost it was The Word of God. Peter is calling those words scripture.)

The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

(This is how we as believers learn scripture. Discuss and reason with one another in reliance upon the Holy Spirit to teach us. If you ever experience bible study with another believer that wants nothing more than to sit at the feet of the Holy Spirit and learn scripture, you are a deprived believer. What He teaches individually has no comparison to what He teaches corporately.)

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

(Can you see the Word and scripture are differentiated here? Paul spoke the Word and they searched scripture to see if it was so.)

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,

(The prophets are now considered scripture.)

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

(The prophets are scripture.)

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

(This is the proper place for scripture. Its proper usage and place in the body of Christ. Comforting to know we can fully rely on scripture; that it is written by the inspiration of God. It is written in the Spirit and needs be taught to us by that same Spirit. If this were the case we would have a thriving Church without division)

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

(Prophecy is scripture.)

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

(We see Peter instructs that Paul’s writings are scripture. But when spoken or written to their target audience were The Word of God.)

Brethren can you hear the tone of the Lord and Apostles concerning scripture? Their use and importance. Also the complete silence in considering them to be The Word of God. There is also a silence in scripture as being a commandment to you and I. We have errentantly allowed the scripture to usurp the authority of the Holy Spirit. Those led by the Spirit are the sons of God. Those not; are not. Remove them from the assembly.

The bible is our scripture; when God speaks that is the Word of God. They are separate. We glean the truth from the Word of God spoken to others. We read scripture to do this. When the Spirit teaches us and speaks fresh to you and I; whether directly to our spirit, through a brother or sister, or thru the scriptures; that brethren is God’s Word.

The Word of the Lord

Usage:

The Word of the Lord occurs 255 times (243 times in the OT and 12 times in the NT)

Link to BLB search: http://www.blueletterbible.org/search/search.cfm?Criteria=word+of+the+Lord&t=KJV#s=s_primary_0_1

Take notice the “Word of the Lord” is always a spoken from the mouth of God. It is never considered scripture. I have only listed a few instances; as 255 times is a bit much to list. I have included a link in case you desire to read them all. I would suggest doing so.

And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded.

(God’s commandments to you and I are not written any longer. We are no longer under the written law. None of it. Not one single letter. NONE!! The law is written on our hearts and as we fellowship with the Godhead He tells us personally what to do and not do. If you do not experience this you are in sin or not born again.)

And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.

Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying

And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,

the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad,

And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,

And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest,

The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea,

The word of the LORD that came to Joel

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah

The word of the LORD that came to Micah

The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah

came the word of the LORD by Haggai

came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah

The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.

From the above verses we can see The Word of the Lord was given personally to these men. It was what He spoke. Below are some interesting verses concerning the Lords Word. Please notice that none seem to be speaking about the scripture, but what the Lord has personally said. To and through whomever.

By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not,

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

The Word of the Lord” appears 243 times in the Old Testament. Each time as far as I can tell it is what He spoke right in that moment of time to a prophet. His Word was for them to do something, tell someone, tell a nation or even an inanimate object such as a mountain or altar what will befall them or what to do.

There is just one verse that attaches His Word to scripture.

Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

(For us in the new covenant what is written in the Law is no longer in effect.)

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

New testament usage of “The Word of the Lord”

There are 12 times it is used in the New Testament. In each of these it seems to be what Jesus spoke while walking and teaching His disciples here on earth. Here are all 12 for your perusal. None of these verses infer “The Word of the Lord” as being scripture.

And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

I know there is a lot of scripture reading here, but it is overwhelming how many verses there are that seem to suggest that scripture is scripture and not the Word of God as we have come to believe over the years. The reformation has ingrained into our thoughts that scripture is Gods Word to us. When in fact it was Gods Word to others, and we glean the truth from what was spoken to these others. The prophets were speaking to the Jews. Paul was speaking to the Galatians and Romans etc. Now let me say something here. I Love the Scriptures. They are the most beautiful, tangible and visable item here on this earth that is from our Lord. But, they are not the Word of God. If you are able and your flesh is not having a volcanic eruption about now hang in there with me for just a little while longer.

The Word of God

Usage:

The Word of God occurs 48 times (4 times in the OT and 44 times in the NT)

http://www.blueletterbible.org/search/search.cfm?Criteria=word+of+god&t=KJV#s=s_primary_0_1

The 4 times in the Old Testament “The Word of God is used exactly as “The Word of the Lord.”

And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Let’s consider its usage in the New Testament. It is used 44 times. As with scripture and scriptures I feel the need to list each occurrence. Why? The adversary was unable to stop the compilation of scriptures around the year 300 something. But he was very effectual in keeping them suppressed for many centuries. Those years were called the dark ages. It always seems as if he is winning. Killing us and destroying the Church. For all practical purposes he seems to win way too much. Why is that? It’s because we as the Church fail constantly. We are just like Israel. Always forsaking our Lord and allowing the adversary to get the upper hand on us. It is the Ekklesia that is to hold back the gates of hell. The Lord had given this earth to us to subdue, and He wants, and has allowed Himself to need us to do just that. He is perfect in every way. We have failed Him in so many ways.

Place yourself for a moment in a position akin to His. You are a Father and Love is your nature. But there is a problem. Your brightest has fallen and is working to usurp your power and authority. he is set on destroying any and everything you hold dear. You are perfect in righteousness and only judge in perfection. Subject to the laws of righteousness. You set in motion a complex plan that will allow judgment to your adversary, and a bride; that has proven herself in obedience and suffering for the love of your Son.

So here we are you and I in the throws of this grand perfect plan of restoration to the universe. What an honor. But alas, what are we doing? Loving the temporal world, concerned with food and shelter, doing what seems good in our own eyes etc etc. The Church has split so many times you would think she is an embryo. And why has she split? Over the scriptures. We have power to route satan and all his powers as the Body of Christ, but do we? No, we don’t. Too busy worrying about our self and what we want. Discussing, memorizing and arguing over doctrines. It is pitiful.

So why this note. It would seem obvious. The scripture is to be used to build up the Body of Christ into Christ. Not to create separation. satan was unsuccessful in keeping the scriptures suppressed so he has taken the opposite attack and has caused them to be worshiped; giving them an inordinate position in the Body of Christ and successfully making us ineffective in tearing down his strongholds. We have made an idol out of a created thing and placed this thing in our heart where our Lord belongs. We have failed our Lord as individual believers and especially as the Body of Christ.

Look at the abusive use pastors have accomplished with their handling of scripture. They have managed to cause us to sit at their feet year after year and be taught. Convincing us due to their schooling and bible knowledge we are not qualified to learn from the Holy Spirit ourselves. Then we have become passive and forsook the Lord and allowed it to happen. So here we are a dead Body or nearly so. satan runs rampant over the face of the globe dragging creation to hell. The blood is on us. We have, and continue to fail our Lord just to fulfill our own desires. What is satan labeled in scripture? “the willful one” and so are we!!!

New Testament usage of “The Word of God”

Now let’s consider the New Testament usage. While reading these think on them as being something the Lord is saying; The Fathers, Son’s and Spirit’s word to us personally. To you and I.

Some of you are probably too young, but for those who have been a believer for a few decades may remember the days when we would go and here a teacher teach and know the Lord was speaking to us through him? We would say that was a “word from the Lord”. There was a day when the Spirit was in the organized churches. I know that may be hard to fathom, but it is true. There is restoration coming btw. It’s going to be like nothing the world has seen since the first century.

Anyways, don’t think in the mindset satan has created thoughout the years. That being the misunderstanding of scripture being the Word of God. Read these verses as what the Lord speaks to and through His servants; as this being the Word of God instead of scripture.

Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

(His Word coming through man and going into a heart can be nullified with our actions.)

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

(It was not scripture that came to him.)

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

(The Word is what keeps our spiritual life alive. Not dead letters on paper.)

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret

(We love to read or listen to a teachers that the Holy Spirit bears witness to; so did they.)

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

(Doing it – is being led by the Spirit. It will also bring us to the cross. We will not always want to. Even our Lord in the garden asked to be allowed to have the cup pass from Him.)

But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

(The word is scarce now. We have so few who can wield it. It takes a deep working of the cross and an immersion into the will of the Lord to be able to. We are much to self serving.)

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

But the word of God grew and multiplied.

And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

(When we teach; if within our heart we are wanting to say what the Spirit wants said, and allow our own desire to die; to say what He wants said, and not what we want to say. This is where the rivers of living water spring from. Those rivers are The Word of God.)

Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

(“by” is better translated though.)

What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

(If in fact the rivers do begin to flow; we can corrupt and or handle them deceitfully.)

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

(If we are able to work in conjunction with the Holy Spirit, wait upon Him and speak what and when He leads; we can effect great damage upon the gates of hell. We must all learn how to wield “The Sword of the Spirit.”)

Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

(His Word comes through men, but are His words. Awesome.)

For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

(This division is the heart of being a spiritual man. There is really no other way to recognize what is spiritual, and what is of the soul or body. Inundating yourself in Spirit taught reading and teachings will effect the division.)

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

(There is no substitute. His word is Life.)

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

(Many young men here on FB can speak the Word of God. It gives my heart more joy and comfort than you will ever imagine. They falter at times, but return to an abiding relationship with the Lord and continue on.)

Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

(Those that have put to death their own desires and wholly live for the Lord will be able to wield the sword of the Spirit. It is those that will undergo special persecution for the adversary. I can promise them special consideration from the vile one.)

Let’s close with some related verses.

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

(Jesus Christ is the Word of God. He is what the Father wants to say to us. If we know Him, bear His cross, serve Him, are led by His Spirit, know His voice, walk daily with Him, are completely consumed with Him. We have the Word of God. Then we can share Him with others. Bringing the lost to their Savior and the brethren into the fulness of Christ. Its by the Word of God that these are accomplished.)

And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness to me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen; and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe him whom he has sent. You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me; yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

(Don’t make the same mistake. The scriptures are beautiful, but they cannot save you. If the Spirit teaches you from them; opens them up and speaks to you; then brethren they are the Word of God. But not a moment sooner.)

Much Love Brethren in Christ our Lord,

K.D.
